Science Laboratories: Experiential Learning in Action

At Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s R.K. Sarda Vidya Mandir, our Physics, Chemistry, and Biology laboratories are designed to bring the principles of science to life through hands-on, experiential learning-an approach strongly aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP). These well-equipped labs provide students with a safe and stimulating environment to explore, observe, and experiment, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. By engaging directly with scientific phenomena, students learn to connect theory with real-world applications, develop analytical reasoning, and cultivate a spirit of inquiry. From conducting experiments in Chemistry, understanding the laws of Physics, to exploring the wonders of Biology, the laboratories serve as hubs for innovation, collaborative learning, and the development of scientific temper, preparing students for higher studies and lifelong learning.

STEAM

STEAM Committee

(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics)

The STEAM Committee plays a pivotal role in cultivating interdisciplinary learning and nurturing a culture of innovation within the school. By integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, the committee promotes hands-on, experiential learning that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Through practical applications and collaborative projects, students are empowered to become innovative thinkers and future-ready leaders prepared to excel in their chosen professions.

Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) Facilities

Nurturing Innovation Through ATL

The Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) is a flagship initiative of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), Government of India, under NITI Aayog, aimed at nurturing an innovative mindset among school students across the country. Bhavan’s R.K. Sarda Vidya Mandir was proud to receive the ATL grant in November 2020, and the lab was formally established in April 2021.

ATL at our school serves as a dynamic and well-equipped workspace dedicated to hands-on learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This experiential approach strengthens understanding, enhances creativity, and builds strong problem-solving abilities. To ensure maximum participation, students of Classes 6 to 8 have a regular period assigned for ATL activities. Students of Classes 9 to 12 who are keenly interested in innovation utilize their free periods or stay back after school to work on their projects. This flexible structure allows every child to explore their potential and develop confidence in their ideas.

The school began making a significant impact through the successful completion of various ATL projects. Students actively participated in competitions and consistently demonstrated their innovative capabilities.

One of the most notable achievements came through participation in the ATL Marathon, an annual innovation challenge conducted by AIM, Government of India, for students of Classes 6–12. In the ATL Marathon 2022–23, Bhavan’s R.K. Sarda Vidya Mandir achieved remarkable success, with five student projects being selected among the Top 400 projects across India. This accomplishment further strengthened the school’s reputation as one of the leading institutions in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

ROBOTICS LAB

As part of our STEAM curriculum, Robotics provides students with hands-on learning experiences that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Through interactive sessions, students design, build, and program robotic models, strengthening their logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The programme encourages innovation, teamwork, and practical application of classroom concepts, preparing learners to confidently engage with emerging technologies and future career pathways.

Design Thinking & Innovation (Skill Module)

Introduced in collaboration with CBSE, the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, and IIT Bombay, the Design Thinking & Innovation Skill Module empowers middle school students with essential 21st-century skills.

Implemented in our curriculum from the academic session 2023–24, the subject is offered to Class VI and VII students. Through weekly sessions, learners develop observation skills, empathy, creative problem-solving abilities, and effective communication. Students are guided to identify real-world challenges, explore innovative solutions, design prototypes, and present their ideas confidently.

Class Schedule: Once a week (1:00 pm – 2:30 pm)
Duration: 6–7 months
